Packing...
So now what do we do with all this stuff? Especially seeing how airlines charge for checked baggage now…

Another long night...
Listening to the crickets, looking at the moonlight through the window, feeling the light breeze of the ceiling fan… Thinking of Nana, wishing she was a few rooms away from me… If that was the case, I’d surely be with her, not lying in bed merely dreaming of her. We’d always be the last to go to sleep, watching TV and chatting long past midnight. I miss every second of...

After awhile
I found this poem in her “special drawer” where she kept her most cherished keepsakes like letters and photos, and it stood out to me because it really summarized the values Nana exuded to all she knew. After awhile you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and sharing a life and you learn that love doesn’t mean possession and company doesn’t mean security and...

Lazy day...
…And not feeling guilty about it! I took a muscle relaxer last night, finally got some good sleep, woke up and got 2 weeks of Health Policy homework done. Then, I took a nap and ate donuts. That’s it. So loving it.

Tonight...
Came home and spent a few hours cleaning up Nana’s studio. Went through 5 or 6 shelves of books… Novels, art books, herbal remedies, sewing, devotionals, fibromyalgia, souvenir pamphlets, home tips… You name it, Nana read it. She always filled each book with letters, photos, and scrap paper to serve as bookmarks, and many inside covers were inscribed with her name or a sweet note...

Cleaning...
… Been at it for 2 days now. Nana had A LOT of stuff. You name it, she had it. Apparently she didn’t get rid of anything either. We’re finding clothes, shoes, belts, gloves, scarves, etc. from the past several decades. We discovered outfits my Great Nana had sewn, marked by little embroidered tags reading “Specially Made by Eleanor.” We found Nana’s old...

The sky opened, the thunder rolled...
…as we came into the empty house that she kept so welcoming. Nothing’s different, yet everything in the world is. She’s not here. And now the sun is trying so hard to shine through the clouds. Try, we must, too.

The night before...
11:15pm… Too tired to finish packing… Guess I’ll get up at 5am instead of 5:30. Ugh. Can I finish packing in only 30 minutes? Unlikely. But do I really think we need to leave for the airport an hour before our flight? No. On second thought… Nah, sleep still wins.
